The Lost Thing
The Lost Thing is about a boy who finds a strange, octopus-crab-like creature on a beach and sets out to find a place for it in a world where people are generally apathetic and too busy to notice the unusual. After failing to find a home for the "lost thing" with help from indifferent adults and a bureaucratic government department, the boy ultimately discovers a hidden, utopian world for lost things and leaves the creature there. The story explores themes of alienation, conformity, and the importance of creativity and imagination, as seen in the 2010 Academy Award-winning short animated film adaptation by Shaun Tan.
